25-year-old woman was raped by five men in Paris a few days before the Olympic Games

An Australian woman visiting Paris was allegedly gang raped just days before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

The 25-year-old told police that she was attacked by five men on Saturday before she sought refuge in the Dounia kebab shop near the Moulin Rouge cabaret theater.

After the alleged attack, she wore her dress “inside out” and was seen holding her underwear in her hand, “disoriented and unable to speak a word of French.”

She was taken to Bichat Hospital after the restaurant owners called for help.

The woman, who was reportedly in Paris for the Fête de Musique music festival, told officers she was attacked by five “young men of African appearance” but was unable to provide specific details about the circumstances.

According to Clinton Maynard, 2GB’s Olympic reporter, the alleged attack occurred just one day before she was scheduled to fly back home.

The public prosecutor’s office stated: “The investigation into the allegation of gang rape, which was presumably committed on the night of July 19-20, has been transferred to the Second Criminal Investigation District.”

The Alliance Paris Police union added that investigators would “do everything to quickly identify the individuals and bring them to justice.”

Paris has launched a major security operation ahead of the opening ceremony; armed guards are patrolling the streets.

The police want to avoid fear among the tourists who are flocking to the French capital in their thousands for the Olympic Games.

Around 45,000 police officers from 43 countries were drafted in. British sniffer dogs were sent to assist the French authorities.

At least 18,000 soldiers will also contribute to the defense system.
