Plaquemine Bank hosts 36th annual Art Alert and announces show judges

Plaquemine Bank hosts the 36th^th annual Art Alert Art Show on October 30th and has issued its call to artists.

The Art Alert Art Show is open to all locals and residents of the Iberville and West Baton Rouge parishes. The show is open to children under 10, children ages 10-13, young adults ages 14-18, and adults ages 18 and older (including professional and non-professional artists).

Each artist may submit a maximum of two works in any two-dimensional format that have not previously participated in this competition.

First, second and third place prizes of $100, $50 and $30 will be awarded in each category. Honorable Mentions will receive $15. The Bankers Choice category will also receive $15 prizes.

“We look forward to hosting the ART ALERT Art Show each year and are excited to see the talent of our community,” said Stephen Panepinto, Chairman and CEO of Plaquemine Bank’s Board of Directors.

“We are blessed to have so many talented artists in our area,” said President Jason Freyou. “This art event represents community banking. Not only do we appreciate all of the art, but we welcome everyone in our community to participate in this celebration.”

A Louisiana native, Chryl Corizzo began taking art classes at the Baton Rouge Fine Arts Academy in Baton Rouge at age 12. She later assisted with children’s classes at the academy as a teenager, and by the time she graduated from high school, she was selling most of her original work in the Baton Rouge area.

Corizzo continued her artistic work during and after college, honing her skills and completing many original works, both commissioned and commercial art. She now lives in Mandeville and worked as an assistant art teacher at the Mandeville Baton Rouge Fine Arts Academy.

Several of her paintings were created and created during boating trips on the scenic Tchefuncte River, on Lake Pontchartrain, the Rigolets, and along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, as well as during her travels throughout the United States and abroad. She uses a variety of techniques including pencil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil, and egg tempera. Her work has been accepted and exhibited in exhibitions sponsored by the Louisiana Watercolor Society, the National Acrylic Painter’s Association, the New Orleans Art Association, and the St. Tammany Art Association, as well as the Mississippi Watercolor Society and the Louisiana Artist Guild’s River Road Show.

Corizzo was selected as the poster artist for the 2005 Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival. She is a signature and board member of the Louisiana Watercolor Society and currently teaches beginning and advanced classes at Abbey Art Works in Covington.

Stacey Casso is a successful artist from Louisiana. Her passion for art began at the age of 17, and since then she has spent over four decades honing her skills and bringing her creative visions to life. In the late 1970s to early 1980s, Casso took classes with renowned artist Larry Casso at the Baton Rouge Fine Arts Academy. Under his guidance, she learned a variety of artistic techniques, ranging from pencil, charcoal, and pastel to watercolor painting. This extensive training allowed her to develop a versatile skill set and a deep understanding of various media.

In 1981, a new chapter in her artistic career began when she founded an art gallery and framing business with her mother, Lucille Uffman. This business not only provided Stacey with a platform to exhibit her own artwork, but also allowed her to support and promote other talented artists in her community. Alongside this, and for the past 42 years, she has run a successful framing business and continued to pursue her passion for painting.

Casso’s inspirations come from the enchanting rural landscapes, vibrant birds and delicate flowers found in Louisiana. Her artwork captures the essence of her surroundings, be it the essence of New Orleans, the excitement of our sports teams or a stroll along the Casso art has garnered worldwide recognition and admiration and her pieces are sold to collectors around the world.

In addition to canvas paintings, she is currently exploring new artistic possibilities, creating hand-painted boots, handbags and wallets. She is also returning to painting on cypress wood, slate and other materials. This expansion into different media underscores her versatility and willingness to constantly push the boundaries of her creativity.

Artwork can be dropped off at Plaquemine Bank from October 14-25.

Plaquemine Bank will host a reception in the lobby to honor all participating artists. This reception is open to the public and the celebration begins at 4:00 p.m. on October 30th.
