In defense of Battlefield 2042’s Dead Space crossover

Battlefield 2042’s Dead Space crossover has caused controversy, but this could be the perfect time for Battlefield to embrace the unexpected.

After the successful release of the original Empty room In 2008, EA Redwood Shores, later renamed Visceral Games, was commissioned to develop an age-rated game for the then relatively new Nintendo Wii console. According to extractionProducer Steve Papoutsis, the decision to Empty room The Wii game was a response to Shores’ interest in developing a game that would be “intuitive and fun” for Wii owners. However, hardware limitations forced extraction having poorer graphics quality than its predecessor and being trapped in an on-rails shooter with a first-person perspective. Despite these problems, Dead Space: Extraction made its worldwide debut in 2009 and was ported to the PlayStation 3 in 2011 due to the motion-controlled PlayStation Move interface.

A few weeks before the events of Dead Space 1, extraction describes the recovery of the Red Marker from Aegis 7 and the beginning of the Necromorph outbreak on both the planet and the orbiting Ishimura Planet Cracker ship. In contrast to Dead Space 1However, extraction features several playable protagonists, including Engineer Sam Caldwell, Detective Nathan McNeill, Doctor Karen Howell, and Sergeant Gabe Weller. Together with Lexine Murdoch, surveyor of the Concordance Extraction Corporation (CEC), and Warren Eckhardt, Executive Director of Colonial Mining Affairs of the CEC, the group fights for survival against the growing horde of Necromorphs and tries to help other survivors and escape.

Since it is a first-person rail shooter, there is not much control for players in extraction except for shooting necromorphs and crazy people. extraction is equipped with a set path for players to follow, there are weapons, logs and ammo for players to collect throughout the game. This often kept players from focusing on the conversations between characters and instead worried about missing some items if they weren’t paying attention to the background. When Dead Space: Extraction Remastered in VR, players can move freely around the game and look around the areas without worrying about missing items or dialogue.

A VR remake could bring further improvements extractionGameplay in terms of combat. In most cases extraction Players must stand still and try to shoot as many Necromorphs as possible. Due to the on-rail nature of extractionit is often difficult to tell how close Necromorphs are to players or if Necromorphs are at a safe distance to avoid being hit by them. With a VR remake, players could run away from Necromorphs or position themselves better for short firefights. This could also allow for more hectic combat scenarios where Necromorphs overwhelm the player, rather than waiting for the player to kill each one in short bursts before moving on.

EA’s Motive Studio could be selected to develop the Dead Space: Extraction VR remake based on their previous gaming experiences. In addition to the development of the Dead Space 1 Remake, motifs developed 2020s Star Wars: Squadronsthat had the option to be played in VR. Motive was able to leverage its VR experience and assets from the Dead Space 1 to develop remake extraction VR. This could be the terrible beginning of the Necromorph outbreak in extraction one of the most grotesque and frightening events in the entire Empty room Franchise.
