30 million people in the West are under heat warning as dangerous temperatures heat up the region

In the western United States, tens of millions of people are still suffering from dangerous triple-digit temperatures that are ravaging the region. The start of summer is one of the hottest on record.

The heat wave has made life unbearable throughout the Northwest, as well as in California, Nevada and Arizona, and it looks like that trend will continue — at least for the next few days.

Heat warnings have been issued in western Washington state, northern Idaho and western Oregon. Further south, parts of central and southern California and the Las Vegas area in southern Nevada were also warned of extreme heat.

Heat advisories for Western Washington will remain in effect through at least Monday night as temperatures there rise to 100 to 110 degrees. And those scorching temperatures will be felt across the region.

“Dangerously hot conditions are expected,” said the National Weather Service in Las Vegas. “Temperatures in the Colorado River Valley and around Lake Mead, Lake Mohave and Lake Havasu will be between 112 and 118 degrees.”

The scorching temperatures also increase the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion. People who are sensitive to heat should take appropriate precautions to stay safe and healthy.
