Yemen’s Houthis attack ships and cause damage to vessels

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Saturday that it had received a report of two attacks on a ship 64 nautical miles northwest of the Yemeni city of Mocha, in which one vessel was slightly damaged.

The ship’s captain reported “two attacks: the first by an unmanned aerial system (UAS) that exploded in close proximity to the ship, causing minor damage; the second by an unmanned surface vessel (USV) that also exploded in close proximity to the ship.”

The captain “later reported further UAS sightings” and added that “both the ship and crew were safe.”

Reuters had previously reported on another UKMTO incident that occurred late Friday 83 nautical miles southeast of Aden, Yemen. The incident is still being investigated, the UKMTO said.
