Atlanta mother found dead after son, brother shot

His death comes just two years after his teenage son and brother were both found shot to death.

ATLANTA — The mother of a 13-year-old boy found shot to death in DeKalb County in 2022 has now been found dead in Atlanta, the boy’s father told 11Alive Friday.

Atlanta police issued a missing persons report Thursday night for Chanell Crosby, 35. They said she was last seen by her family between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. on July 14. Police said their investigation showed she may have been in the Macon area.

However, on Friday, during an interview with 11Alive’s Cody Alcorn, Jamiren’s father, Don Wilson, said he received a call from police saying that Chanell’s body had been found.

MARTA police told 11Alive that one of their officers was stopped around 2 p.m. about a car smelling bad in the area of the West End MARTA station. When the officer approached, he found a body in the back seat of the car. Police have not yet identified the body as Chanell Crosby, despite confirmation from her family.

MARTA and Atlanta police are currently on scene investigating the death. The car was found about 9 miles (14 kilometers) from Chanell’s home, Wilson said.

Chanell’s death comes just under two years after her son, 13-year-old Jamiren Crosby, was found behind a townhouse on Parkway Trail in Lithonia on Sept. 19, 2022. His death was ruled a homicide, and nearly two years later, no arrests have yet been made in his case.

Polo’s family told 11Alive at the time that he had just won about $4,000 on a progressive slot machine and they believed the person who killed him was after that money. They said the morning he was found, the money was also gone.

Atlanta police later said their preliminary investigation showed his death was the result of an attempted robbery.
