Angry Residents Threaten Houston Power Generation Crews, But Not OGE Workers

Extended power outages in Houston following Hurricane Beryl have led to threats against maintenance crews, rocks being thrown and guns being pointed at them. Some crews require police escorts, but that is not the case for the 105 Oklahoma Gas and Electric employees helping CenterPoint Energy restore power.

THE Associated Press Houston authorities also urged residents to leave the workers alone.

“The linemen are our friends and they are doing their job. Do not threaten them. I understand that you are angry, furious and frustrated, but let’s get through this together,” Mayor John Whitmire said at a news conference Monday, the newspaper reported. AP.

Contacted by OK Energy Today, OG&E responded by saying that this is not what its teams encountered.

“OG&E line crews working to restore power after Hurricane Beryl have not encountered any safety issues,” the company said.

“The CenterPoint Energy customers our teams have encountered have been supportive and have offered encouragement as well as water and snacks to our teams. Our mutual assistance team is traveling with various support personnel, including security personnel, to ensure the safety of our teams and equipment.”

The storm initially left about 3 million people in Texas without power, and in recent days that number has dropped to about 300,000.
