Forest fire near Sofiko in the Corinth region injures firefighters and triggers evacuation alarm


On Wednesday, a forest fire broke out near Sofiko in the Korinthia region of the Peloponnese.

Two firefighters suffered burns while trying to contain the fire spreading through forested areas in the Agios Vlassis area and were taken to a hospital in Corinth.

A message from the emergency call system 112 asked the residents of Sofiko to be prepared for a possible evacuation.

A total of 64 firefighters with 20 fire engines are deployed to extinguish the fire. They are supported by three firefighting planes and four helicopters.

Police have blocked traffic on the road leading from the settlement of Loutra Elenis to Epidaurus (also spelled Epidavros).
