University professor suspended for “Don’t Miss” comment on Trump assassination

A Bellarmine University professor was suspended Monday for comments posted on social media about the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

The instructor wrote on his social media alongside a picture of Trump, according to the Courier-Journal: “If you’re going to shoot, man, don’t miss,” he said. Jason Cissell, assistant vice president of communications at Bellarmine, stated that the screenshot of the post was authentic and confirmed that the instructor had taken unpaid administrative leave.

Screenshots of the instructor’s Instagram story were posted on the Libs of TikTok X account.

Bellarmine released a statement on his X account following the professor’s social media comments. (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: ‘You can’t stop him’: Trump’s world reacts to former president’s assassination attempt)

“Words and actions that condone violence are unacceptable and contrary to our values, which demand respect for the inherent worth and dignity of each individual. We strive to create an inclusive community that welcomes all and models a spirit of goodwill. We are aware of an offensive and unacceptable social media post made by an employee over the weekend. This individual was immediately placed on unpaid leave,” the statement said.

The university also received a bomb threat Monday evening that Cissell said was related to the post, but the Louisville Metro Police Department deemed the threat implausible, the Courier-Journal reported.

Trump was shot in the ear on Saturday evening in an attack on his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The shooting killed Corey Comperatore, who was protecting his two daughters from the gunfire.

The FBI identified the gunman as 20-year-old Thomas Michael Crooks, who shot Trump from about 400 feet away from the roof of a building. Crooks used an AR-15 purchased by his father, and explosives were also found in his car, according to the Wall Street Journal.
