Extreme heat continues into the weekend; First warning for dangerous temperatures extended

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – A heat warning with dangerous heat is in effect in the Arizona deserts from today until 8 p.m. Saturday.

Our first weather warning days have been extended until Saturday. A high temperature of 116 degrees is expected in the valley today.

Winds are not expected to be too strong, but gusty winds from nearby thunderstorms are possible in the late afternoon and evening. These storms are possible in the mountains, including parts of Gila and Yavapai counties.

It will be hot on Saturday with maximum temperatures of around 46 degrees. On Sunday, however, it should cool down a bit, with maximum temperatures of 42 degrees in the valley.

Parts of the valley received some rain Thursday, with showers falling late at night in Apache Junction. Although there is a slight chance of thunderstorms in the valley again late Saturday, chances are higher on Sunday and Monday, at 20 to 30 percent.

Maximum temperatures next week will not be quite as hot as last week, but will still be slightly above normal, with highs between 43 and 44 degrees Celsius.
