Dozens of protesters arrested on the Upper East Side

According to authorities, police arrested 27 pro-Palestinian protesters as they made their way through Manhattan on Monday evening.

Hundreds of demonstrators said the protests were part of a citywide “day of rage.”

The NYPD believes they were trying to disrupt the Met Gala.

NYPD Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry said the NYPD preventing protesters from disrupting the celebrations was “the result of a perfect plan so far.”

“I feel like civil servants are not recognized. They don’t get the recognition they deserve,” Daughtry said. “They not only have to deal with protests, but also with continuing to keep New Yorkers safe. “So when you’re done with the protesters here, you need to go back and answer emergency calls at 911.”

They started at 68th Street and Lexington Avenue at Hunter College before taking to the streets.

NY1 cameras observed the arrest of protesters near East 79th Street and Fifth Avenue.

As of early Tuesday morning, police had not said what the protesters were accused of.

The march comes after Hamas said it had accepted a ceasefire proposal to halt the war with Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the proposal was “far from Israel’s essential demands” but also said he would send negotiators to continue ceasefire talks.

According to the Hamas-run Health Ministry, more than 34,000 Palestinians have been killed since the war began.

The reaction came from Israel after around 250 people were kidnapped on Israel’s southern border seven months ago.

This is the latest protest in the city. Students and their supporters have been taking to the streets for weeks.

Demands vary from school to school, but one common request is for colleges to disclose and dispose of financial interests with Israel.
