School district sues employee for alleged sexual harassment of students

Two boys who were allegedly assaulted by a Beaumont Unified School District teacher’s aide because she sent them explicit images and repeatedly harassed them to sleep with them have now sued the aide for emotional distress and negligence, it was announced Monday.

The plaintiffs and their families filed the civil suit in Riverside County Superior Court, naming Michele Alejandra Carrillo and BUSD as defendants.

“Parents have the right to send their children to school and trust that they will be educated and not sexually harassed,” said the mother of one of the alleged victims. “There have been other cases at Beaumont High School where a teacher sexually abused male students. This school and district should have been on high alert for this type of behavior, but they were not.”

The district did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Carrillo, who was arrested in late March on suspicion of soliciting a minor to commit a crime and distributing pornography to children, is not in custody and has not been criminally charged. Her current employment status could not be confirmed.

“Beaumont High School and the Beaumont Unified School District failed in their most important responsibility – to educate children in a safe environment,” said the mother of the other alleged victim. “I believe my child was sexually abused and molested because the district failed to conduct comprehensive reference and background checks on potential employees before granting them access to children. The people responsible for this failure and the horrific consequences must be held accountable.”

According to the plaintiffs, Carrillo blatantly flirted with the two boys, identified only as “BHJ” and “BMJ,” touched them intimately, asked them to make pornography and sent them “obscene videos of herself naked and performing sexual acts.”

“Carrillo asked one of the victims if she could come to his home to have sexual contact … and said he could do whatever he wanted with her,” the plaintiffs alleged.

Attorney Saul Wolf, who represents the two teenagers, said there were numerous “warning signs” that the school district and Beaumont High School administration ignored.

“This included interacting with male students on social media and text messages, physically approaching male students to touch them, hug them, and play with their hair, making sexual comments about male students’ appearance, and attempting to remove male students from the BUSD campus and take them to lunch and to their homes,” he said.

The plaintiffs allege that the defendant engaged in a pattern of indecent behavior that was evident long before the harassment of BHJ and BMJ, but without any consequences.

Carrillo liked to refer to BHJ as her “favorite white guy,” and the lawsuit further alleges that she paid him excessive attention between January and March of this year.
