Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen One of NFL’s Top 10 QBs

The debate over the degree to which a player is considered decisive can get a little fuzzy. After all, there are a multitude of ways to define the concept of “decisive” in athletics.

CBS Sports developed this idea with quarterbacks in mind. It looked at two specific aspects when creating its list:

  1. Quarterback conversion rate late in the game on offenses that tie or give away the lead
  2. Expected Points Added (EPA) in these game situations.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen finished fourth in the rankings. Clawson points out:

Josh Allen is in the top 10 in all of the above metrics, including fifth in game-winning drive conversion rates in 2023 and for his career. He led three game-winning drives as the Bills finished last season on a five-game winning streak and stole the AFC East title from Miami.

Bills fans have grown accustomed to Allen’s late-game theatrics. His ability to single-handedly take control of games is something to behold.

If anyone wants to question Allen’s resume, CBS Sports brings up an old injury for the Buffalo faithful:

And before you question his ability as a decisive hitter, just remember his heroics in the 42-36 loss to Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs a few years ago.

In that game, Allen completed 27 of 37 passes for 329 yards and four touchdowns. He added 68 yards on 11 carries.

With the Bills’ offense in transition, they’ll rely on Allen even more than they have in the past. Buffalo lost two of Allen’s top receiving options in Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis. Expect Allen to take over more games as the new faces integrate into Joe Brady’s offensive scheme.
