Tanker accident blocks McLeod Road

By Scott Grooms

A truck driver suffered multiple injuries after the tractor-trailer he was driving went off Interstate 95 at the McLeod overpass. The southbound truck and tank trailer went down the embankment, struck the railing, then crossed McLeod Road and struck the railing on the other side as they went up the south embankment. The truck was heavily damaged. An off-duty Hendersville, NC firefighter, also traveling on I-95, stopped to assist the truck driver. Colleton County Fire Department responders arrived minutes later and continued medical treatment. Fortunately, the trailer was new and unloaded. McLeod Road was partially closed by the accident. The driver was transported by firefighters to the trauma center at Trident Medical Center. The SC Highway Patrol and State Transportation Police are investigating the accident.
