(KRON) – Customers of Patelco Credit Union in Northern California were still waiting for answers Monday after the bank announced over the weekend that a serious security incident had occurred in its systems.

The credit union announced on X: “Our systems are currently unavailable. We are working to resolve the outage as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

The security breach left customers unable to use banking systems, including electronic transactions such as Zelle transfers, direct deposits, account balance inquiries, and online payment information.

From Monday, Patelco employees were available to provide assistance in person in the branches, via live chat and in call centers. Due to the expected high volume of calls, customers must expect longer waiting times.

The disclaimer on the credit union’s website states: “We deeply apologize for the inconvenience and frustration caused by this incident. Our branches, call center and chat will be available to assist you as much as possible during regular business hours on July 1. We will answer your questions as best we can, but are unable to provide you with specific account details at this time. For hours of operation and nearest branches/ATMs, please visit patelco.org/locations.”

There was no estimated time when the service would be available. Nexstars KRON4 reached out to Patelco for comment, but email contact was unavailable.
