Woman killed by wrong-way driver in Santa Rosa

(KRON) — A 44-year-old woman was killed in a head-on collision in Santa Rosa on Tuesday, the victim’s cousin said on GoFundMe.

The accident happened around 10:08 p.m. on River Road at Martinelli Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, one of the two vehicles involved crossed the double yellow line and drove into oncoming traffic. The GoFundMe post said the other driver was going in the wrong direction.

“As relatively young people, we assumed death was a worry for later. Well, our ‘later’ came on Tuesday evening, 6/25/24 when my cousin, my friend, was killed due to someone’s poor driving skills,” the GoFundMe campaign said.

The victim, whose first name was given as Lisa in the GoFundMe campaign, died en route to the hospital, police said.

“My cousin Lisa was a great person and friend. It goes without saying that her death was unexpected and unjustified. And I and my family, like many others, were stretched to the limit financially. And an unexpected death like my cousin’s was something we could never have imagined we would have to cover in our budget,” the GoFundMe campaign said.

The family is trying to raise $10,000 for cremation and a memorial.
