Shooting in Manchester is being investigated by police

WHAT LEAD TO THIS SHOOTING AND WHY IT BECAME FATAL. I WOULD SAY ONE OF THE BIGGEST QUESTIONS WE ARE ASKED RIGHT NOW IS WHY. INVESTIGATORS SPENT THE DAY EXAMINING BRIDGE STREET BETWEEN ASH AND BEECH STREETS AFTER A POLICE OFFICER WAS INVOLVED IN A SHOOTING THIS MORNING. A VETERAN POLICE OFFICER OF THE DEPARTMENT, WHO HAS BEEN ON THE JOB FOR 15 YEARS, WAS PATROLLING THE AREA ALONE WHEN HE APPROACHED A MAN IN THE AREA. THE WHY IS UNCLEAR AT THIS TIME. DURING THEIR CONVERSATION, THE MAN TOLD THE POLICE OFFICER HE HAD A GUN. THE POLICE OFFICER TOLD HIM TO KEEP THE GUN IN HIS POCKET AND MAKE HIS HANDS VISIBLE BUT INVESTIGATORS SAY THE MAN DIDN’T LISTEN AND REACHED FOR THE GUN, SHOT THE POLICE OFFICER AND THE POLICE OFFICER SHOT BACK. THE POLICE OFFICER WAS NOT HIT BUT THE MAN WAS HIT AND LATER DIED AT ELIOT HOSPITAL. AT THIS TIME THIS IS STILL A FULL INVESTIGATION AS TO WHICH WAS THE BEGINNING OF THIS INTERACTION. THE POLICE OFFICER WAS WEARING A BODY CAMERA. THE FOOTAGE IS CURRENTLY BEING REVIEWED AS WELL AS NEARBY SECURITY VIDEO AND WITNESS STATEMENTS. THE POLICE OFFICER WAS READY, LIKE HE ALWAYS, LIKE THEY ALL ALWAYS ARE. UM, HE RESPONDED QUICKLY. UM, DECISIVELY. THE CHIEF SAYS HE HAD TOTAL CONFIDENCE IN THE POLICE OFFICER AND THE FIRST THING THE POLICE OFFICER DID AFTER THE SHOOTING WAS TO PERFORM LIFE-SAVING MEASURES. HE FIRED A SHOT AT ONE OF MY POLICE OFFICERS. UM, THAT TO ME IS THE INTENT TO KILL HIM. UM, AND THAT UNDERLINES THE DANGERS OF THIS JOB. AND AT THIS TIME, THEY ARE NOT RELEASING THE NAMES OF THE POLICE OFFICER OR THE MAN WHO DIED. AN AUTOPSY IS SCHEDULED
