Roof collapse at Delhi airport: On Friday morning, Delhi residents woke up to heavy rain and a light breeze that gave them some relief from the scorching heat. However, the downpour caused chaos at Delhi airport’s Terminal 1 after the roof of Terminal 1 collapsed, crushing cars and taxis, killing one person and injuring six others.

In addition to the airport incident, the rain flooded several areas of Delhi and the wider Delhi-NCR region.

1) The incident took place at around 5 am today in the departure area of ​​Terminal 1 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi amid heavy rain. At least one person was killed and six others injured in this tragic incident.

2) An investigation has been ordered into the roof collapse at Delhi airport. Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu announced a thorough inspection of the airport structure.

3) Naidu announced that 20 lakh would be given to the family of the deceased and 3 lakh for each injured person. The situation is under control and Terminal 1 has been temporarily closed.

4) SpiceJet and IndiGo have suspended flight operations at Terminal 1 following the roof collapse at Delhi airport. However, all SpiceJet arrivals and departures at Terminal 1 will be shifted to T3 and IndiGo services will be distributed between T2 and T3.

5) The minister added that the building that collapsed on Friday morning was opened in 2009 and airport operator DIAL had been asked to inspect it. “The DGCA will monitor the inspection and submit a report.”

6) A DIAL spokesperson said after the incident that rescue teams are working to provide all necessary assistance and medical treatment to those affected by the roof collapse at Delhi airport.

7) Opposition leaders attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the roof collapse at Delhi airport’s Terminal 1, calling it a “failure” of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

8) “Just like the ‘Modi empire’, Terminal 1 has collapsed. They maintained it for 10 years, even though it did not survive the first rain. Modi’s government will meet a similar fate, it bears full responsibility for it,” said Congress MP Manoj Tiwari.

9) “This is a failure of the Ministry of Civil Aviation… The Minister of Civil Aviation should make a statement on this and tell us what remedial action is being taken,” said TMC MP Saugata Roy.

10) Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge blamed “corruption” and “criminal negligence” for the roof collapse at Delhi airport, claiming that the Prime Minister had inaugurated the collapsed portion on March 10.
