Lawmakers consider pension changes after police officer killed in line of duty

Support continues to be provided to the family of Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier, who was killed when he was struck by a car during a traffic stop in Southington last month.

However, the family was told that they were not entitled to his pension.

The family says Pelletier did not meet the requirements to receive his pension because he was killed before completing the required length of service. Although Pelletier was eligible for the state pension because of his more than 10 years of service, he did not meet the criteria to receive the pension: 25 years of employment or reaching age 55.

Given this situation, politicians are now considering changes to the pension system.
