Princess Anne in hospital with concussion after “incident” at home

Royal Princess Anne is in hospital with minor injuries and a concussion following an “incident” at her country house on Sunday evening, Buckingham Palace said.

The palace released a statement on Monday saying that Princess Anne, daughter of the late Elizabeth II, was at Southmead Hospital in Bristol “as a precautionary measure” and is expected to make a full and speedy recovery.

“The King has been fully informed and joins the entire Royal Family in sending the Princess his deepest love and best wishes for a speedy recovery,” the statement concludes. No further details were given about how Anne was injured at her country estate, Gatcombe Park, or when she will leave hospital.

It increases public concern about the health of the royal family after King Charles and the Princess of Wales were diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

But Kate Middleton attended Trooping the Colour 2024 last Saturday, which celebrated Charles’ birthday.

She stood on the balcony with her husband, Prince William, and their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis. “I am overwhelmed by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last few months,” she wrote on social media ahead of the event. “It really has made a huge difference to William and me and helped us both through some of the more difficult times. I am making good progress but as anyone going through chemotherapy knows, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days you feel weak, tired and need to give in to resting your body. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of your wellbeing.”

The royal has since resumed his royal duties despite his ongoing cancer treatment. The corporation has not specified the type of cancer in either his or Kate’s case, nor given a timeline for recovery.
