Man killed, woman hospitalized after high-speed crash in northwest Houston

HOUSTON – A man died and a woman was seriously injured in a high-speed crash in northwest Houston on Sunday evening.

It happened around 10 p.m. at the Gessner & Tanner intersection, off the Sam Houston Tollway, near Highway 290. At the time, authorities say the driver, an unidentified man, was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control and drove over the center barrier, causing the vehicle to roll over several times.

Houston police said the driver was ejected from his vehicle during the crash and died at the scene. Meanwhile, firefighters had to extricate a woman from the passenger seat and take her to a local trauma center in serious condition.

Speed appears to have been the only factor; no other vehicles appear to have been involved in this accident.

No further details have been released, but the investigation is ongoing as police gather more information.
