Death of 5-year-old ruled a result of overdose; police still investigating – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

DAYTON – The cause of death of a 5-year-old boy has been announced nearly three months after he was found dead in a Dayton home.

Charles Brown was found dead in a home on Benning Place in Dayton on March 30. Today, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office determined his death was the result of an accidental drug overdose.

AS reported on News Center 7 at 5:30According to the coroner, Brown had a lethal dose of fentanyl, fluorofentanyl and xylazine in his system.

It all began with an emergency call from a close relative of Brown on March 30. The relative was desperate when he told emergency services that the child was not breathing, was ice cold and blue, and appeared to be bleeding from the nose.

A paramedic arrived at the scene and pronounced Brown dead. Since then, medical examiner officials have been leading the investigation. On Friday, they declared his death an accident.

News Center 7 then reached out to Dayton Police to see if there was any update on their own investigation.

“The Dayton Police Department continues to investigate the tragic death of five-year-old Charles Brown. Detectives from the Dayton Police Department’s CARE House and Homicide Unit are investigating the incident,” Lt. Steve Bauer said in a statement Friday.

At this time, no one has been arrested in connection with Brown’s death.
