Katy ISD is under federal investigation over gender identity policies

District policy requires parents to be notified if a student wishes to use a different name or pronouns.

KATY, Texas — Katy ISD is under investigation by the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights over the district’s gender identity policy.

The policy requires the district to notify parents if their child wishes to use a different name or pronouns at school.

A complaint filed in December alleges the policy puts students at risk by discriminating based on gender identity and spreading harmful stereotypes.

In a statement, Katy ISD denied any wrongdoing.

“The district is committed to providing equal educational opportunities for our entire community. Although we have received the OCR filing and deny any wrongdoing, we are committed to remaining fully cooperative and responsive throughout the process.”
