MassDEP issues air quality warning for Tuesday

BOSTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Extreme heat is expected between Tuesday afternoon and Friday evening this week, and with that heat comes the possibility of increased air pollution.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has issued an air quality warning due to elevated ozone levels, effective from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, in five Massachusetts counties: eastern Hampden and Hampshire counties, southern Worcester counties, and central Middlesex and Essex counties.

People with heart or lung conditions such as asthma, older adults, children, teenagers, and people who spend a lot of time outdoors should take more breaks, reduce strenuous activities, follow asthma action plans, and have fast-acting medications on hand.
