Broward officers arrest two suspects on I-95 near Delray Beach

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – There were significant delays on northbound Interstate 95 Friday afternoon after Broward Sheriff’s officers pursued two suspects into southern Palm Beach County.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 2:35 p.m. when officers in Deerfield Beach were investigating two people wanted on warrants in Fort Lauderdale for an armed kidnapping.

They found the individuals and attempted to stop traffic near the 200 block of West Hillsboro Boulevard in Deerfield Beach.

Investigators said the suspects intentionally struck a Broward Sheriff’s Office unit with their vehicle and fled north on Interstate 95.

Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in monitoring the individuals as they continued to travel north.

While fleeing from police, the suspect’s vehicle collided with other vehicles, said FHP spokeswoman Lt. Indiana Miranda.

Broward Sheriff’s officers performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver on the vehicle near the Woolbright Road exit on Interstate 95.

Officials said the two people jumped out of the car and investigators took both into custody.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office said two firearms were found in her vehicle. No one was injured in the incident. Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Delray Beach police and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said their agencies also assisted with the incident.

After previous closures, all lanes are open again.
