Jury acquits man accused of raping woman in Plymouth

A jury has found a London man not guilty of raping a woman in Plymouth. George Gardiner, 25, first appeared at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on October 23 last year where he was charged with rape. The case was referred to Plymouth Crown Court on Monday, November 27, where he pleaded not guilty. The offence is alleged to have taken place in Leigham on July 19, 2022.

The jury heard evidence from the alleged victim, a woman who cannot be identified for legal reasons, and from Gardiner, of Exeter Road, London.
