Atlanta Libertarian Chase Oliver Kicks Off Presidential Campaign – WABE

Atlanta activist and former U.S. House and Senate candidate Chase Oliver is on the campaign trail again, as the Libertarian Party’s candidate for president.

He began his tour Tuesday in Avondale Estates.

Third parties have rarely been competitive in U.S. presidential elections. Four years ago, the libertarian candidate obtained 1% of the vote. The party prioritizes small government and individual freedoms, with a mix of liberal and conservative policy positions. For example: Oliver describes himself as “gun and gay” – an LGBTQ candidate who also won’t support any new gun restrictions.

But when Oliver spoke with WABE’s Morning Edition, he said that this year there was widespread frustration among Democrats and Republicans, and that meant more opportunities to siphon votes from main parties and attract voters.

“So we’re going to do what we can to build our party on the foundations, so that we can actually begin to tear down this two-party system, which so many American voters are unhappy with,” Oliver said hours before his first campaign event presidential. .
