5 Ways to Know Summer is Here in Buffalo, New York

For many people, Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer, but we know how fickle and unpredictable the weather in the 716 can be, so you need to figure out when it’s summer. from time to time.

Apart from a few days of rain, the weather so far this year has largely cooperated with very nice temperatures and clear, sunny skies. However, we know that this is not always the case. So what are Buffalo’s surefire ways to know that summer is here to stay in the 716 and it’s finally safe to get out and play?

I’m sure there are many ways to find out, but these will definitely mark the start of our summer adventures:

Canalside and Erie Basin Marina are crowded

Canalside is very popular, but there’s something special about the Erie Basin Marina: You know it’s a beautiful day when you see hordes of people flocking to the marina. The marina is great for launching your boat or jet ski, strolling along Lake Erie and the Buffalo River, or just relaxing for ice cream or a bite to eat at places like The Hatch.

Although Buffalonians are a hearty bunch, you won’t usually find us outside eating a hot dog in a snowstorm, but once the warm temperatures arrive, it’s almost impossible to find a spot on their patio .

Whether it’s a national chain like Lowes, Home Depot or Walmart or a local store like Northtown Garden Center, Urban Roots or Elbers, you know summer is here when all the plant moms and dads buy their annuals. Now that the weather has improved and we have hopefully seen an end to the cold temperatures, it is finally the perfect time to plant.
