THE CALLER OFTEN USES THE NAME TIM LEWIS. THEY SAY THE CALLER IS ASKED PEOPLE TO GO TO DIFFERENT PREMISES TO PAY FINES OF OVER ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS. SPD investigates reports of scammers calling Chatham County residents

Savannah Police are warning the public about a possible phone scam. Police have received numerous reports of scammers calling people claiming to be from the Savannah Police Department. The caller asks people to come to various precincts to sign documents to verify their signature and pay fines of over $1,000. The scammers have used the name Tim Lewis in several of the calls. If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a public official, ask for the caller’s name, their duty number, and the agency they claim to represent. Hang up and verify their identity yourself by calling that agency’s official phone number. Do not use the phone number provided by the caller. Do not give out personal information such as social security numbers, bank account details, or credit card information to unknown callers.
