Paterson man accused of involvement in triple shooting arrested in Pennsylvania

A 19-year-old Paterson man has been charged in connection with the October 3, 2023 murder in the area of ​​Broadway and Rosa Parks Boulevard in Paterson.

Brayan Caraballo, 19, of Paterson, is charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

On October 3, 2023, at approximately 3:47 p.m., police were called to Broadway and Rosa Parks Boulevard in Paterson for a reported shooting. Three victims with gunshot wounds were found. The first victim, Jerrell Wright, 23, of Riverdale, suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and was pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center. The other victims, Shaheem Clark, 19, of Elmwood Park, and Charles Obee, 57, of Paterson, survived.

The subsequent investigation identified Caraballo as one of the people involved in the shooting. A 16-year-old boy was previously arrested for his involvement in the shooting and is being held pending the outcome of court proceedings.

Caraballo was arrested in Pennsylvania and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey. The Passaic County District Attorney’s Office will file a motion for pretrial detention, which will be heard by a Superior Court judge at a later date.

Murder carries penalties ranging from at least 30 years to life imprisonment.
