Psychotherapist arrested for sexually abusing 13-year-old in O’Brien County

PRIMGHAR, Iowa (KCAU) – A Sibley man and psychotherapist is accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old.

According to court documents, a 13-year-old boy reported to police that his psychotherapist, Martin Wallace, 75, had been making inappropriate contact with him. The child said there were three separate instances of inappropriate contact. These incidents occurred in Sheldon from August 1, 2023, to May 4, 2024.

Wallace allegedly told authorities he did not have any cameras recording the sessions. During a search of Wallace’s office, authorities found several hidden cameras, including a magnetic hidden camera, the documents say. Authorities also found evidence consistent with the victim’s statements.

Wallace was arrested on May 31 on a warrant. He was charged with sexual exploitation by a counselor or therapist (Class D), sexual abuse with a child (Class C), and second-degree sexual abuse (Class B). He was booked into the O’Brien County Jail on $40,000 bail, but was released on bail on June 1.

Wallace’s next court date is scheduled for the afternoon of June 21.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Professional Licensure, Wallace is licensed as a “mental health counselor” as of Wednesday afternoon. His license expires in September 2024.
