Man allegedly sexually assaulted 18-year-old at sunrise in North Myrtle Beach

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) — A North Carolina man is facing charges for allegedly sexually assaulting an 18-year-old while she was watching the sunrise on a beach, according to a North Myrtle Beach police report obtained by News13.

Maurice Moore, 38, was charged with sexual abuse, kidnapping and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on May 26.


According to the report, police responded to the 2700 block of S. Ocean Boulevard around 6 a.m. on May 26 for a possible assault. The caller told officers he was Facetimed with his girlfriend when Moore approached her on the beach. The caller then said he heard Moore kissing and shoving his girlfriend and she texted him to call police.

The woman told police she was on vacation with her family and “had just been raped,” the report said. She was Facetimed to her boyfriend on the beach when Moore approached her and started talking to her.

The woman said Moore had a gun strapped to his right ankle and he told her not to move before he sexually assaulted her, the report said. At the time of this writing, Moore was still in jail with no bail set.
