Man sentenced to house arrest for sexually abusing his granddaughter

An elderly man accused of sexually abusing his underage granddaughter was sentenced to five and a half years of house arrest by a court in Thessaloniki on Friday.

According to the files, the abuse occurred in 2017 in the Pella region near Thessaloniki, where the grandfather sexually abused the then seven-year-old girl, who was visiting for part of the summer. The girl told her mother, who filed a complaint. A child psychologist found the girl’s account to be truthful.

The grandfather, who is over 80 years old, denied all allegations and claimed that his daughter-in-law was targeting him to take revenge on her ex-husband, his son.

The perpetrator was initially sentenced to seven years in prison, but was released on conditions pending a second trial.
