Collin Holcomb arrested months after fatal fentanyl overdose

Police said they found evidence that 34-year-old Collin Reed Holcomb allegedly sold fentanyl to Bradley Mitchell in the days before his death.

CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. – Authorities said a man was arrested Wednesday night in Citrus Heights in connection with a fatal fentanyl overdose in February.

Citrus Heights police said they began their investigation after being called to the 7900 block of Madison Avenue around 4:45 p.m. on Feb. 15, where they found 33-year-old Bradley Mitchell unconscious. Witnesses told police Mitchell likely overdosed.

Police say they found evidence linking 34-year-old Collin Reed Holcomb to the alleged sale of Mitchell’s fentanyl in the days before his death. A search warrant was issued and police say they found Holcomb with a child in his Davis apartment, along with “additional illegal narcotics.”

Holcomb was booked into the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of murder, according to police. Police say the child found in Holcomb’s apartment was taken into custody by Child Protective Services.

“The Citrus Heights Police Department and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office are committed to cracking down on those who poison our communities with fentanyl and will ensure that those responsible for these deadly acts are brought to justice quickly and decisively,” Citrus Heights Police Investigation Lieutenant Wesley Herman said in a press release.

This case could be one of the first in Sacramento County involving a possible conviction of an alleged drug dealer in a death.
