Two people arrested, one wanted in connection with Houston shooting |

Houston, Texas – Two suspects were arrested and another is wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred on the evening of April 16 at 9522 Madera Road.

Anthony L. Merritt, 19, is charged in the state’s 185th District Court with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct. A second male suspect, 16, was referred to the Harris County Juvenile Justice Department on similar charges. The juvenile suspect’s identity and criminal history photos are not being released.

Police are still searching for a third suspect, 19-year-old Kiersten Chanel Lathan, who is charged in Harris County Criminal Court No. 3 with assault on a family member. Lathan is not currently in custody.

Officers from the Houston Police Department (HPD) Aggravated Assault and Domestic Violence Unit responded to the call about the shooting and discovered a 40-year-old male victim who was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Initial investigations revealed that the shooting occurred after a physical altercation between an uninjured man and his girlfriend. Two male suspects who were accompanying the girlfriend fired shots, one of which hit the victim. The suspects then fled the scene in a black four-door sedan.

Further investigation led to the identification of Merritt, Lathan, and the juvenile male as suspects. Merritt was arrested on April 24 and the juvenile suspect was taken into custody on April 25, both without incident.

Police urge anyone with information on the whereabouts of Kiersten Chanel Lathan to contact HPD’s Aggravated Assault and Domestic Violence Unit at 713-308-8800.
