Alligator from Georgia rides in a patrol car after being “arrested” on the driveway: Video

US News

A Georgia alligator was “arrested” and loaded into a patrol car after making an unwelcome appearance in a resident’s driveway, a video shows.

Chatham County Police released footage of the alligator’s “arrest” in a Facebook post on May 25.

The incident occurred near Savannah on Friday.

“When an uninvited visitor appeared in the area on Thursday evening, our Cpl. Blackledge and Cpl. Stapleton responded,” police said in the Facebook post.

“Look how they caught the alligator, dragged it into the back of a patrol car and released it back into the wild.”

Bodycam footage shows police officers tapping the alligator on the mouth and holding the reptile before loading it into the back seat of a police car.

Later, the reptile was shown being released into the wild.

Local residents were excited about the video and many wrote amused comments.

“Did you read him his rights?” someone joked.

“Poor alligator. I’ve been in the back of one of those Explorers too,” joked another.

Other locals praised the officers for their bravery in capturing the alligator.

“Thank you again. You have many different responsibilities and you carry them well,” wrote one Facebook user.

“Country boys can do it,” was another comment.

Chatham County Police told Fox News Digital that such alligator sightings are not uncommon in the area.

“There have been several cases over the past few years where our officers have encountered an alligator and released it back into the wild,” the department said.

“We are proud of Corporals Blackledge and Stapleton who worked quickly and calmly to move this alligator from a residential area to the Ogeechee River where he belongs.”

“It takes a lot of courage to hold an alligator and tape its mouth shut so it can be transported. But the adrenaline really starts to rush when you tape an alligator’s mouth shut and release it,” the statement continued.
