Car crash that kills pedestrian is being investigated – Star News Group

SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS – The cause of the fatal collision between a pedestrian and a motor vehicle in Spring Lake Heights on Saturday afternoon is currently being investigated by the Monmouth County District Attorney’s Office (MCPO).

The investigation was announced Sunday in a joint statement by Monmouth County Attorney Raymond S. Santiago and Spring Lake Heights Police Chief Edward W. Gunnell.

According to the statement, Spring Lake Heights Police Department officers responded to a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Old Mill Road at the intersection with Allaire Road at approximately 1:20 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024.

The statement reads: “A 70-year-old male driver of a 2023 Nissan Rogue attempted to turn left from southbound Old Mill Road onto eastbound Allaire Road when he collided with an 85-year-old female pedestrian. crossing Allaire Road.”

The driver was still at the scene, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at 1:56 p.m. To date, no charges or citations have been issued in connection with the incident.

An investigation involving members of the MCPO, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Spring Lake Heights Township Police Department remains ongoing.
