Former sex detective Glen Coleman found guilty of groping teenager

A sex crimes investigator was found guilty of abuse of office by twice sexually touching a teenage complainant without her consent, but was acquitted of the rape charge.

Glen Coleman stood trial for allegedly sexually abusing a 19-year-old woman from March to May 2022 and abusing his position as an officer at Windsor Police Station.

He met the teenager at the train station in February 2022 after she complained that her cousin had threatened to publish nude pictures of her on the Internet.

During the trial in Penrith District Court, jurors heard that the 57-year-old allegedly solicited the woman for sex after finding out she had gone to a Sydney strip club for a job interview.

Jurors heard he had texted the teenager asking her to send intimate nude photos and demanding sex for money.

On Friday, the jury announced its verdict after about five hours of deliberation. It found that Coleman had sexually touched the woman without her consent once in a park in western Sydney and again in an interview room at Windsor police station.

The officer was also found guilty of abusing his public position to obtain the woman for his own sexual gratification.

However, the jury acquitted Coleman on three counts of rape and four additional counts of sexual contact without consent.

Coleman always insisted that the sex in the interrogation room was consensual and denied touching the woman without her consent or free will.

Following the verdict, his bail was revoked and he will be held in custody pending sentencing on September 27.
