Sidhi (Madhya Pradesh), May 25, 2024 (ANI): At least seven tribal girls were allegedly raped in Sidhi district of India’s Madhya Pradesh state after the accused posed as a teacher using a voice modulation app and called the victims to a deserted place to discuss scholarships, an official said.

The incident was going on for a long time and came to light when one of the victims recently lodged a complaint at Majhauli police station in the district. Police arrested four accused, including the main accused Brijesh Prajapati (30), the official added.

Mahendra Singh Sikarwar, Inspector General of Police (IG) Rewa Range, told ANI, “A girl has complained that a man approached her in a woman’s voice and asked her to meet at a deserted place to talk to him and help her get the scholarship. The accused also told the victim that a man would pick her up and take her to the discussed place. After that, the girl reached the said place where the accused reached her and raped her.”

After the incident, the victim informed the police about the entire incident. Based on this information, the police launched an investigation and arrested the main accused and his accomplices, he added.

“The accused was identified as Brijesh Prajapati, a resident of Sidhi district. The police also took his three accomplices into custody and interrogated all of them. During interrogation, the accused confessed to raping seven girls. Of these victims, we have identified four and based on their statements, charges have been framed against the accused,” the officer said.

Further investigations into the matter are ongoing and further action will be taken accordingly, he added.

According to the official press release, after the rape, the accused snatched the victim’s mobile phone, which he used to obtain the contact numbers of other girls and sell their phones in the market with the help of his accomplices.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mohan Yadav has also taken note of the case and ordered the setting up of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the entire case.

“A case of abuse of tribal girls by luring scholarships has come to my attention at Majhauli police station in Sidhi district. The accused has been arrested. Anyone who commits such reprehensible acts is an enemy of the society and strictest action will be taken against the accused. The accused will not be spared at any cost,” CM Yadav posted on X.

“A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to thoroughly investigate all aspects of this case and collect concrete evidence. It will investigate all the facts impartially and submit a report,” he added. (ANI)
