Police say man killed trying to prevent catalytic converter theft – NBC Los Angeles

A man was shot and killed this morning by one of three suspects who were trying to steal his car’s catalytic converter on the outskirts of downtown Los Angeles, authorities said.

The victim, who is said to be in his early 30s, observed the suspects attempting to remove the catalytic converter from his vehicle around 3 a.m. in the area of ​​West Pico Boulevard and South Hope Street, according to Los Angeles police.

One of the suspects shot the victim, after which the trio fled the scene. Police were dispatched to the scene at around 3:15 a.m. Paramedics took the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A description of the suspects was not initially available.

Catalytic converters are a popular target for thieves because they are rich in precious metals that can be resold.
