Man arrested in Covington for kidnapping girl

According to the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, a man is facing charges for allegedly kidnapping a Louisiana girl.

Authorities said Wednesday that officers and Virginia State Police were dispatched to the LOVES truck stop at 9104 Winterberry Avenue in Covington.

At 3:51 a.m., dispatch received a call from a woman asking for help at the rest area. When officers arrived, they found a dark gray four-door sedan with Arkansas license plates in the parking lot.

A man, Diego Castro, and a girl were present. The girl was identified as the caller.

During the investigation, officers discovered that the girl was from Louisiana and was being held captive in the vehicle by Castro against her will.

Castro was immediately taken into custody and transported to the Alleghany County Regional Jail. He was charged with:

• kidnapping

• Indecent liberties with minors

• Mayhem

According to authorities, an ICE arrest warrant was also issued for Castro.

We were informed that the girl was taken to LewisGale Alleghany Hospital for evaluation and then turned over to Child Protective Services.
