MEMPHIS, Tennessee — Memphis police say a woman was arrested after helping a man wanted for attempted murder and other violent crimes evade investigation.

According to court documents, 53-year-old Wonder Brooks was accused of aiding and abetting after the fact.

On Thursday at 12:30 p.m., a detective allegedly called Teamwork Graphics on Watman and spoke to Brooks about an employee named Amos Fleming.

According to Shelby County Sheriff’s Office records, Fleming has warrants for attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, vandalism, possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony and possession of a weapon as a convicted felon.

According to Memphis police, Brooks, a manager, confirmed that Fleming worked there but had gone out for lunch. Brooks allegedly told the detective she would call when Fleming returned.

According to police, the detective later called back and asked when Fleming was expected back. Brooks allegedly told the detective Fleming was supposed to be back at 12:30 p.m., but he “heard his name on the phone.”

Memphis police said the detective and a U.S. Marshals Service agent went to the store to speak with Brooks and ask him for footage that would show Fleming leaving the store.

According to police, Brooks told the detective that Fleming overheard their conversation because he was behind her in the office. According to police, Brooks told the detective that they had been on speaker phone during the previous call, but she “got up and walked away” when the detective told her about Fleming’s warrants.

Memphis police said the detective spoke to another manager who allowed him to view surveillance footage of the store from the outside and inside.

According to police, the investigator looked at footage that matched the time of the phone call with Brooks. The video allegedly shows Brooks talking on the phone and then walking to a door. When she returned, Fleming followed her, police say.

According to the Memphis Police Department, the video shows Fleming leaning on a table and eavesdropping on Brooks’ conversation with the detective.

Footage from outside the store showed Fleming walking toward an “unknown black car” before turning around and walking back into the store after someone caught his attention. Memphis police said Fleming was later seen leaving the store. He did not return, police said.

Brooks was booked into jail on Thursday and held on $10,000 bail.
