2 coyotes killed after attack on dog owner in Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) – Two coyotes were captured and euthanized Wednesday after wildlife officials said a person walking his dog was attacked in a Scottsdale neighborhood.

According to the Arizona Game and Fish Department, a fight occurred between a coyote and a dog near the intersection of Thomas and Hayden Roads.

When the dog owner intervened, the coyote bit the person, Game and Fish reported.

A neighbor saw the incident and reported it.

They said one or more coyotes had been becoming increasingly aggressive toward people in the area, but this was the first attack.

Game and Fisheries officials found two coyotes and removed them from the neighborhood. They were then killed and are now being tested for rabies.

AZGFD reminds Arizona residents to be aware of their surroundings and stay away from wildlife.

“At this time of year, coyotes have young and may exhibit aggressive behavior in defending their dens, especially toward domestic dogs. Coyote dens are often located near communities and populated areas where negative interactions can occur,” officials said in an emailed statement.

If you observe aggressive coyote behavior, you are asked to call Game and Fish at 623-236-7201. In an emergency, call 911.
