Mother of singer Sean Kingston arrested after raid on his Florida home

Police and a SWAT team raided singer Sean Kingston’s South Florida home on Thursday, leading to the arrest of his mother on fraud and theft charges.

Officers from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office and members of a SWAT team from Davie, Florida, were seen at the musician’s residence in Southwest Ranches, 15 miles outside of Fort Lauderdale, where they executed arrest and search warrants.

Multiple media reports said Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, was not home at the time. However, his 61-year-old mother, Janice Turner, left the 13,000-square-foot rental home in custody.

The sheriff’s office told The Associated Press that it could not provide specific details about her charges or whether Kingston also faces legal action as part of the ongoing investigation. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office did not respond to Scripps News’ request for comment.

The case reportedly involves a $150,000 entertainment system that Kingston has not fully paid for, including a 232-inch television and a sound system. The singer reportedly told the company’s owners that he and Justin Bieber would do commercials for the entertainment company if they gave him a smaller down payment and a loan.

In a post to his Instagram story on Thursday, Kingston appeared to confirm the raid while downplaying its severity.

“People love negative energy! I’m fine and so is my mom! My lawyers are taking care of everything right now,” said the post, which has since been deleted.

Kingston is best known for his work in the mid-2000s, with several of his songs having been streamed hundreds of millions of times on Spotify, including his song with Justin Bieber, “Eenie Meenie,” his 2007 number one single, “Beautiful Girls,” and “Fire Burning.”
