Washington:

Two people were killed and three others were injured and taken to hospital in what authorities on Wednesday called a workplace shooting in Chester, Pennsylvania, CNN reported.

A suspect was arrested in Trainer, according to Chester Police Commissioner Steven Gretsky. The shooting incident occurred Wednesday morning in Delaware County Line, according to Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteime.

At a news conference, Stollsteimer said the suspect came to work with a gun and “took out his anger on his colleagues.”

Chester Mayor Stefan Roots said the suspect was a “disgruntled employee, a current employee” of the company.

“It speaks for guns in America… It’s heartbreaking, it’s tragic, it’s got to stop,” he said, according to a CNN report.

There were at least 168 mass shootings across the United States in the first five months of 2024, CNN reported, citing the Gun Violence Archive. The report said the nonprofit and CNN define mass shootings as those in which four or more victims were shot.

In early April, two people were killed and 14 others were hospitalized after a block party in a park in Memphis, Tennessee, turned deadly, CNN quoted police as saying.

According to Memphis police, three of those injured in the incident were immediately taken to the hospital in serious condition and 11 others arrived at hospitals in private vehicles.

According to CNN, police said the shooting occurred at a party where up to 300 people had gathered. Police told the press that “a total of 16 victims were shot at the event.”

“Officers responded to the scene at 7:19 p.m. (local time) and found five victims with gunshot wounds. Three of them were taken to local hospitals and two men were pronounced dead at the scene, according to CNN.”

According to police, no suspects had been arrested as of Saturday evening. Police believe at least two people opened fire at the event, Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis said.

However, it is unclear what led to the violence.

“We are working tirelessly tonight to identify the individuals involved in this shooting,” Davis said.
