Deputies say Yelm standoff and investigation into gunman’s death may be related – KIRO 7 News Seattle

NEAR YELM, Wash. – The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office says a standoff that ended Tuesday evening near Yelm may be related to a death investigation at an adjacent property.

Earlier today, firefighters were called to a mobile home fire near 103rd Avenue and Old McKenna Road.

Firefighters on scene discovered what they believed to be a body and called the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

When officers and investigators arrived, their investigation led them to a locked trailer on an adjacent property where two people were located. The officers managed to get one person out. An armed man remained inside.

The Washington State Patrol SWAT team and bomb disposal unit were called in. Negotiators spoke with the man for several hours but were unable to persuade him to surrender. Eventually he committed suicide.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office believes there is a connection between the death investigation and the standoff.

However, they say the investigation into the possible death had just begun after the standoff ended Tuesday evening.

Shortly after 10 p.m., officials informed us that a body had been found.
