Elected District Judge Brimhall arrested – NEA report

JONESBORO, Ark. – An arrest has been made as part of the investigation into a designated district judge in Jonesboro.

Doug Brimhall was arrested Tuesday, May 21, on a charge of aggravated assault on a family or household member, a felony. Jail records show he was arrested at 10:15 a.m. and released at 10:31 a.m.

According to the heavily redacted incident report, which JPD initially declined to release, between May 3 and May 4, a suspect allegedly assaulted a victim at a location in Jonesboro in a manner likely to result in serious bodily injury to a family or household member and a Third degree endangerment would constitute endangerment of the welfare of a minor. The report describes the nature of the alleged victim’s injury as “minor,” but the agency withheld the description of the injury. The report lists a white male suspect, 40 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with green eyes and brown hair.

The shipping report, which the police initially refused to release, reveals more. It states that the dispatcher was told that on May 3, a female juvenile was assaulted by her father. The dispatcher wrote that the stepmother took the teen to spend the night with her former mother-in-law. The former mother-in-law is a mandated reporter and the incident has already been reported to DHS.

On May 7, Brimhall resigned from his position as assistant district attorney, District Attorney Sonia F. Hagood confirmed. However, Hagood did not reveal any further details.

This is a developing story. More information will be added as we hear about it.
