Report: Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice attends OTAs amid offseason incidents

Amid an offseason full of problems, receiver Rashee Rice reported to the Kansas City Chiefs’ organized team activities (OTAs) on Monday, according to media reports.

The second-year receiver made several off-field headlines in the last two months for incidents unrelated to football, including his involvement in a multi-car accident during a Lamborghini race in Northeast Dallas. Rice is currently facing eight felony charges stemming from the accident and a $1 million lawsuit from two people who suffered injuries in the accident. An NFL suspension is likely imminent.

Additionally, Rice was suspected of attacking a photographer at a Dallas nightclub earlier this month. Dallas police confirmed Tuesday that the man had signed “a non-prosecution affidavit” and would not pursue further charges.

However, according to WFAA, police are still investigating the incident.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was the first to break the news.

According to head coach Andy Reid, Rice, 24, participated remotely in offseason activities with the Chiefs earlier this year. At the time, shortly after the crash, the team’s stance was to let the legal process play out before making a decision about Rice’s status.

The Chiefs made two notable additions at receiver this offseason, signing free agent Marquise Brown and selecting Texas speedster Xavier Worthy with their first-round draft pick. The team is looking to bolster its position at Patrick Mahomes, especially with Rice expected to receive a significant suspension.

Rice was Kansas City’s second-round draft pick (No. 55 overall) out of SMU last year. During the regular season, he caught 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns. He set a record for rookie receivers with 26 postseason receptions as the Chiefs won their second straight Super Bowl championship.
