Driver charged with hitting and killing man in Concord, North Carolina

David Royce Brown, 41, is charged with second-degree murder and habitually impaired driving.

CONCORD, N.C. — A man is facing charges after police say he struck and killed a person on a Concord street Friday afternoon.

According to Concord police, this happened just before 1:30 p.m. on Davidson Highway near Winecoff School Road, east of I-85. Officials said 35-year-old John Lee Stevenson Jr. was walking west on the highway when 41-year-old David Royce Brown struck and killed him while driving a Nissan Titan pickup truck.

Brown was arrested and police said impairment appeared to be a key factor in the incident. He is now charged with second-degree murder and habitual obstruction of traffic.

Brown is being held without bail in the Cabarrus County Jail.
