Teenager dies after water-related incident in North Kildare

A teenager has died in a water-related incident in the Grand Canal in North Kildare.

When asked by the Leinster leader about the incident, a spokesman for An Garda Síochána said: “At approximately 5.40pm on Saturday 11 May 2024, gardaí became aware of a person in difficulty in the waters of the Grand Canal between Ardclough and Celbridge in County Kildare.

“A number of emergency services attended the scene and a short time later the body of a teenage male was recovered from the water.”

The spokesman concluded: “The local coroner has been notified and arrangements are being made for a post mortem.”

It is believed that the incident appears to have been a tragic accident.
